MY RATING:

Synopsis:
A near-death experience catapults workaholic junior editor Kelsey Worthington into changing her life–one yes at a time. Kelsey Worthington always dreamed of being a writer, but she’s settled into a routine of helping other people tell their stories in her job as a junior editor. Read More:
While she’s in the hospital overnight, she meets an older woman named Georgina Tate–a glass-ceiling-shattering, wildly successful businesswoman. Georgina sacrificed everything to become the woman she is today, but now, with a pair of failing kidneys and only a handful of months left to live, Georgina is forced to come face-to-face with her regrets. Kelsey is forced to reckon with her own list of “things I’ll do someday,” and she starts to ask a simple but life-changing What if I said yes to all the things I normally say no to? And The Yes Plan is born. It takes some convincing, but Georgina finally agrees to go along with Kelsey on her Summer of Yes adventures. The two of them set off to see what might be out there waiting for them if they simply open themselves up to it. Together, they say yes to whatever comes their way–a whole day being tourists in their own New York City, dinner with strangers, a convertible that is far from practical but so much fun. But when Kelsey springs a surprise visit to Georgina’s son Hayden and Georgina’s ex-husband (who is not so much of an ex), the older woman is less than thrilled. But this is where the true journey begins. Two stories of love, forgiveness, regret, romance, and finding a way to live a fearless life intertwine as these two women make an indelible impression on each other. And it all starts with a simple “yes.”

THE REVIEW:
This is my second Courtney Walsh book. The first was Brighter Than Before, which was an okay read for me, and I gave it 3 stars. I enjoyed this one much more, but I didn’t end up loving it as much as I thought I would.
I really liked the premise, it was different and refreshing. I am not going to comment on the medical standpoint because it was not realistic I am letting this one slide… But the friendship that slowly developed between Kelsey and Georgina was very well written and captivating. I also appreciated that the older woman was portrayed with her flaws and mistakes, as well as her efforts to rectify them. We got to see Georgina’s thought process and understand why she made the choices she did, and to a level we could relate to or at least understand her choices. Which was something I would have loved to read more of. Unfortunately, Kelsey was the main focus, and although she was an alright character, we saw a lot more of her rather than of both women. Another thing I loved was that this is a clean romance, with all the unnecessary stuff left out.
As mentioned, the romance was clean, but this is where my issue with Walsh’s romance comes in. I don’t like it when there is “insta” anything, especially in this department. And here we got exactly what I don’t enjoy. Now, had the romance been left out or made more natural, I would have loved this book a lot. I need my books to be deep, reflective, but also cosy and relatable. To an extent, this book was just that, but the romance and not seeing much of Georgina ruined it for me, because I was more invested in learning more about her and her past, and her family dynamics with her husband mainly. This bit could have been explored and expanded more because it was very interesting, and I wanted to know his point of view as well.
Overall, I did enjoy this one, and it got 3.5 stars from me. I do recommend it!
