Women in STEM in Books
Prompts: Over the years, there have been an increasing number of books about women in STEM. What do you think of this trend? Do you like it or is it/can it be poorly done? In honour of International Women’s Day tomorrow (March 8), what are your favourite books ft. women in STEM and what books are still on your TBR?
Ah, this is a really nice theme, for there are not so many books that feature women in STEM, and I surely do have a few on my TBR that I would love to dive into sooner rather than later.
I must say I love this trend as a former HCA of 5 years in the NHS at the Emergency Department, and as someone who studied for Paramedic (could not complete my studies due to personal circumstances), I have yet to stumble upon a book that is fiction with this type of representation. I am not saying that there aren’t any, I just haven’t found them yet! Hence, I really have no books, especially with this theme, to compare it to and be able to judge whether it is done poorly or not.
This said I do have an upcoming post tomorrow in honour of us women and mothers that I hope some of you might find useful!
So let’s dive into my books they will mostly be TBR ones!
Clicking on the book covers will take you to their Goodreads page

From this selection, I have read only The Love Hypothesis and The Kiss Quotient the rest has been patiently sitting on my TBR! I really enjoyed both books, Ali’s book a bit more, though, since it got 5 stars and Helen’s 4.
I really hope to see more women in STEM in the near future and more medical representation everywhere hospitals are short on nurses, HCAs, Paramedics, Phlebotomists, CT scan technicians and many more. I do feel a bit guilty for leaving my career in this field, and I do miss it, but being understaffed and underpaid and working not 12 but 16 hrs a day was diabolical. COVID was indescribable sometimes, I go back in memory lane and wonder how we managed it all with 4 HCA for 100+ patients in the ED in a big hospital.
I definitely don’t miss the stress, so please, if you know books with this theme, let me know!!!
Happy reading everyone 🙂
