PROMPT: Do you like to read romance novels? Who are your favourite fictional couples? Which characters from different books or series do you think would be perfect for each other?

Happy Friday!! Ohh, love is in the air! I hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day with your significant other 🙂

Do you like to read romance novels?

Let me tell you, I was not a fan of this genre AT ALL when I started my reading journey back in high school more than 2 decades ago. I was a hardcore YA fantasy and Sci-fi reader. Think Shiver series by Maggie Stiefvater, Twilight (yes, I did like it), The Mortal Instruments, The Fifth Wave, Hunger Games, etc. This was my jam; I didn’t even like there to be any romance in my books back then, the less there was of it, the better. Romance was just not my cup of tea.

However, the older I got, the more interested I became in this genre and all the branches it comes with ( I try to avoid erotica and SMUT, no judgment if you like them). I find myself reading more romance-oriented books than ever. Especially this year, I have officially started my romance era! And I kid you not, this is not a myth, apparently, when a woman gets past a certain age, her taste changes, and I am no exception to that haha

So, the short answer is yes, I do read and love this genre, but I am a newbie in this territory.

Who are your favourite fictional couples? Which characters from different books or series do you think would be perfect for each other?

I’m totally blanking on all the books I’ve read right now, my brain is not cooperating 😂 I probably haven’t read enough romance to pick a favourite couple/s… or maybe I just don’t have one yet.
Although the only couple I could think of is from A Discovery of Witches: Diana and Matthew, does this count?

Same for the other question, the only characters in my head come from fantasy books, haha. Maybe my brain will surprise me with an answer one day!

Hope you all have a great day and happy reading!

  1. The genre I first adored was non-fiction until I tried different genres. Now, I love children’s books, romance, historical, biography, fantasy, etc. I don’t know. Maybe I almost love all genres. I’m now enhancing to understand poetry. It challenges me. My friend Lauren will send her poetry books, and I’ll try to review them.

  4. I don’t know that I’d read any “truly romance” books before I started working in the library in my late20s. Certainly there were some love stories in the books I read, but I feel like that romantic element was just part of a bigger narrative and not the reason FOR the narrative. Once I discovered the genre in earnest, and all the zillion subgenres/branches (whew!), I started finding my little happy places and the rest is history 🙂 Romance makes up a large portion of my reading now, but not all 😉

  5. Ooh, I totally forgot about Diana and Matthew but they were the first paranormal romance couple I read about as an adult (I’m not counting Twilight even though the me in my uni days enjoyed it immensely, haha)! I’ve been meaning to re-read that series.

As a hopeless romantic, I feel like I’ve always loved romance and I’d love it in whatever form it came in, but I always felt like I should be embarrassed to like it. I’m glad that as I’ve gotten older, I feel less shame about this genre because I love it so much! Great post and thanks for joining LTB this week 🙂
