THE REVIEW:

Let me start off by saying that I don’t usually read the thriller/mystery genre. However, as mentioned previously, my taste in books is changing as I am getting older (I guess I’ll take this change as a perk rathar than a demise lol). And this book marked of my new adventure with this literary genre, quite exciting!

The synopsis really captures what this book is all about. Five mothers, five secrets, one missing husband, and you are all set up for unveiling the mysteries. Some I was able to predict, others I did not. The overall reading experience of this book was enjoyable, but some of the things that were happening were very far-fetched for my linking as well as credibility goes.

The dynamics between the women were confusing but still complicated as in real life. I could relate to some of the things they were going through when it comes to their kids and raising them. The struggles, the sleepless nights, and all the other perks that parenthood comes with. The relationships with their husbands/partners was where I was rising an eyebrow and rolling my eyes a lot at.

Writing-wise, the style was easy to follow and realistic for the most part. Some interesting and heavy topics were touched on, although I wish we had seen more of these topics in depth as well as more of Jen.

Skye’s story was weird to say the least, and it made me feel bad for her baby girl. I don’t know what else to say. You need to read the book to see what I mean without giving anything away. When it comes to the husbands, it feels like they were all nasty and awful except a couple… As if every stereotype for men was used here, but in a negative light, at least in my opinion. Bella was someone I wanted to grab and give a good shake of, just because she was so annoying…

The end was somewhat surprising but at the same time it wasn’t…. I know something was going on with certain characters but couldn’t put my finger on exactly what. So when the big revelation came it simply left me with the “Oh, I knew it but did not expect it to be to that extent…” hence I wished some of the topics were discussed more in depth. It felt like half job was only done and in my opinion the book should have been a bit longer.

I enjoyed the twists and turns and trying to guess what was really going on, but overall, it was a solid 3 stars read for me.

Do I recommend this book? Well, maybe give it a go, who knows you might end up loving it.

    1. Thank you! I have some others lined up that I am looking forward to. I also managed to get my hands on Green Pastures a book I found from your blog last year. Really excited about reading this one too 🙂
