Today’s Prompts: There are very popular bookish fandoms out there, especially in the romance fantasy genre (Maas, Yarros, LOTR, etc.). Are you part of a bookish fandom? If you are, what do you love about it? If not, do you think you’d ever want to be part of one? Does being part of the online book community help you connect to fandoms?

Welcome, Friday, and welcome, May! The weather is lush, we had a lovely time meeting family friends, and just spending some nice quality time together. I am also squeezing in some reading whenever I can, not going as fast as I would like to, but still steady enough. And here we are with brand new topics of LTB for this month!

There are very popular bookish fandoms out there, especially in the romance fantasy genre (Maas, Yarros, LOTR, etc.). Are you part of a bookish fandom? If you are, what do you love about it? If not, do you think you’d ever want to be part of one?

Ok, here the short answer is NO. I am not part of any bookish fandoms, nothing wrong with them, but I personally don’t find them appealing and are not for me, so I probably will not be joining one either, not in the near future anyway.

Additionally, I am not interested in reading ACOTAR, MAAS or any other overhyped and overrated series. If you like them and these are your favourite series, I am truly happy for you. Honestly, I do not want to waste my time on those books when there are so many others I am genuinely interested in and are waiting for me. Not feeling the peer pressure haha

Does being part of the online book community help you connect to fandoms?

I suppose so, being part of the bookish community can definitely be a way of connecting to pretty much anything you are interested in, fandoms included. This is the amazing thing, really, being part of something you enjoy and believe in and being able to share it with like-minded people and gush about your favourite books/series is just the cherry on top of the cake!

Enjoy whatever you enjoy, read whatever your heart desires, and why not connect with the ones who share your interests and just do you? Going back to the topic of last Friday, the bookish community is awesome, and it is great to be a part of it, regardless of whether you are in a fandom, a book club, doing a bookish meme or just posting photos of the books you read or whatever else you like doing. It is enough that you partake, we love you all the same!

This is my take on this topic of today, let me know what you think about it and if you are part of any fandoms!

  1. To be honest I wouldn’t know whether I would read and love ACOTAR if I had read it now. I’m glad I did so before Booktok!

    1. I just don’t like how long this series has become, and think authors tend to milk the story when they see there is interest, and tend to deteriorate the work. Also, the story does not appeal to me either. But to each their own!

  2. Yes, indeed. The bookish community is a great place to be and it’s so great that many different types of readers—from those who love being part of large fandoms to those who prefer quietly championing in the background—can find their space and people in it!

    1. Absolutely! Whatever people choose to be part of, I don’t mind, and this is the great thing: being able to have the possibility and the options to choose from!
