The topic for this TuesdayTop 5 books set in Africa, Australia and New Zealand
Happy to add Antactica in here too if you’ve got some, but let’s cover off your fave books the last three continents!! And I refuse to leave New Zealand off the list. (Although, can I just say, the Hobbit and LoTRs don’t count for NZ, sorry!!)

Happy Tuesday, hope you are all doing better than I am. We got food poisoning last night. This has never happened to me, it is like a really bad flu for 24 hours, and I am much better now, but until a few hours ago, I did not have enough strength to pick up my own baby… The weirdest thing is that I did not have the usual symptoms, just nausea and body aches and a headache. I guess we are never indulging in ordering food again for the near future… I will catch up with all of you just need to find the extra time because I am also reading a lot now and have to catch up with my reading as well.

Now, for this prompt, I don’t think I have read any books set in those countries, however, I will do the top 4 books I want to read set in each country/continent instead.

  1. The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith: Botswana, Africa
  2. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty: Australia
  3. Owls Do Cry by Janet Frame: New Zealand
  4. South Pole Station by Ashley Shelby: Antarctica

Have you read any of these?

  1. I…have not. I recently read a book by an Aussie, but it wasn’t one of these. I’m sorry to hear about your illness!

    1. Oh, this is nice. Did you like the book? And thank you, I am all fine, it was 24 hrs thing, thankfully!

      1. I did! It was some light fiction — Jack Pot, I think it was. I went on a general fiction binge last year!

      2. Glad to hear you enjoyed it! I think this year for me will be big on nonfiction haha

  2. I have not read any of these, Lin. I really enjoyed the Aaron Falk series by Jane Harper set in Australia.

      1. It is a series, Lin, but you don’t have to read them all. I hope you enjoy it if you check it out.

  3. From the books I have read from your list, I have read only one, The No. 1 Ladies’ …

But, I have read many books from Africa or the other places but I’ve restricted myself to Africa because I already had many more than five there. If you want any ideas, here is my list.

    1. Oh, this is great to hear! I have not read books from Africa or maybe just s couple, and I definitely want to read more diverse authors! Do you have a favourite book from Africa to recommend?

      1. Well, looking at your books, I think you might enjoy The No. 1 Ladies …. It’s probably a good light introduction into a very different continent with very different cultures. Written by a Scottish author, he sees their life with our eyes which is probably a good one.
Other than that, would you prefer to read more about the past or the present? With or without wars? In any case, life for African women (especially women) is never easy, so I think “So long a letter” would be a good introduction. Ask me for further books, tell me your favourite reads.
