THE WEEK:

Happy Sunday! This week was been eventful for us, full of activity, strolls, and meeting friends we have not seen in months! The weather is great, not too hot, but warm enough for us to be out pretty much all day. We have been inside for long enough, so now is the time to take advantage and enjoy nature and those frappes! Here are some photos from the past week, hope you enjoy!

We have a great flora and fauna around, and we are lucky to be living in such an area next to the river. We, as of recently, maybe a couple of years or so have nutrias in the river. We have not had them before, not sure if it was due to them being hunted down or because they were not introduced to this river. Some people are not happy about them since they are actually considered bad for the environment and are more of pests. I am not familiar with this casus, so I will withhold my opinion on the matter, but the fact is they are cute! I assume there are govormental bodies who are taking care of this and keeping an eye on them in case they do start to do more damage than good for now I have seen only 2 or 3 of them here. Have you seen a nutria, and do you know if they are good or bad for the river they inhabit?

  1. What gorgeous photos! You live in a very beautiful place. Nutrias are quite cute, but I know we eradicated them from the UK because they were so destructive to our native habitats and aquatic species. (I did sone research after you mentioned them to me before.)
    I’m glad you’ve have a good week!

    1. Thank you! So I’ve heard it is sad because they are really cute and seem friendly. I see people interacting with them. Maybe this was the reason why I had never seen them before. I will have to research Bulgaria; it will be interesting to learn more about it.
We did have a great, busy week, hope yours was too 🙂

  2. I will look up nutria to see what they are. I hope they don’t ruin the beautiful environment you have near the river!

    1. Thank you, they are bearded irises and have many meanings haha I love knowing what certain flower means and legends and stories connected to them. In this case, these flowers symbolise friendship, but in Greek mythology, they are associated with the goddess of the rainbow and the gods’ messenger, Iris. It was a busy one indeed, but good busy, hope you have a wonderful one yourself!

  4. I love your pictures, it looks like it has been a lovely week, Lin. So, nutria are native to South America. From what I found, they are a danger to the natural habitat in rivers and marshes, which is why many countries are trying to eradicate them. No new books this week? Good for you. Time to read all the ones already on the shelves. Have a great week.

    1. Thank you, Carla! It was a good, busy one indeed. They are dangerous, unfortunately. I will do some research for our country because I am now invested in the whole nutria thing, hah, I try to focus on the author’s request and arcs at the moment 🙂 You, too, have a wonderful one!

  5. What a gorgeous place you live in!!!

The area my mom lived in in Arkansas (USA) had those cute Nutria. Unfortunately, they are very destructive to the rice fields (a main crop for Arkansas) and wetlands and dams and irrigation systems. The Arkansas Game & Fish Commission has to monitor and control the population.

    1. Thank you! It is sad that they do more damage than good… Arkansas is a lovely area of the USA I hope one day to visit never been to the USA. I will check who, if anyone, is actually monitoring them here in Bulgaria and check more about them in my country. I am now invested in this nutria thing haha Hope you have a great week!
