Happy Friday, here comes another LTB discussion. I swear I live for this meme haha I really enjoy the topics and connecting with the book community. This is truly amazing and I hope you are all doing well, enjoying your books and simply spending time with your loved ones!

OK don’t mind me… I am having fun with the GIF..

Today’s prompt: Real life can be a lot. Do you enjoy reading books with high relatability to your past or present situation (i.e. with relatable characters, situations they face, or places they visit) or do you read purely to escape reality? Do you seek out a certain type of read, depending on your head space or mood?

The short answer here is BOTH. What type of book I pick is entirely dictated by my mood at the time. I mostly read for escapism, however, I do enjoy reading a story that represents me for instance I have recently bought more family-oriented books that feature FMC who are mothers/wives as this is my current situation and would like to read more about these topics.

So yeah, it all really depends.

Do you seek out a certain type of read, depending on your head space or mood? 

LOL, as a mood reader, I HAVE to seek out that read that will satisfy my thirst for that genre/topic/trope or whatever I am craving at that time.

Right now I am dying to read books with mermaids! But I can’t; but why; you may ask? BECAUSE ARCS! I swear this will become a catchphrase of mine, will have to patent it…

    Lol, yes BECAUSE ARCs. I feel that!
    But also, I don’t really get the need to read x, y or z very often. I feel like I might be an outlier there!

      Hahah yes!!! And this is totally fine too! I always feel the need to read certain topics I am very emotional which is not a very good thing to be always haha but as I got older I got this under control a bit. Let’s say it is a work in progress haha also I am sure you are not the only one who feels this way 🙂

        I think I get that through reading nonfiction. I have a lot of feelings and thoughts about the natural world, and I often find I have stronger reactions to nonfiction than I do fiction.

        I do get that and I can understand the why! Speaking of nonfiction it is a goal of mine to read more of it this year and i got some exciting book 🙂

    It all depends is probably the answer to pretty much all bookish questions. I do read by mood/feeling. As far as relatability, I think the best way to put it is that I need a hook. I have to relate to SOMETHING – even if that’s not an obvious something. I have been reading books with older protagonists as I get older, but I still relate to stories like the Wayward Children series because they remind me strongly of pieces of my own childhood. I have a hard time with stories about father/daughter relationships because I’m still not over my dad’s sudden death and it’s been over 30 years at this point. I read mysteries for comfort because I find stories where good triumph and evil gets its just desserts VERY comforting. And sometimes, I look for things that are short because I’ve been in a slump and a short quick bite of a story will often break that slump for me – and I need something to review for my blog rather desperately and I’m short on time. So it ALL depends ALL the time.

      It all depends indeed! You said it very well, and thank you so much for sharing this. I completely understand you as I lost my grandmother who was like a mother to me suddenly before her time. However, after this, I find myself craving books that revolve around grief and loss as I am trying to still process mine. But everyone is different and deals with this complex emotion differently. I too tend to gravitate towards older protagonists now that I am in my mid-30s although I still enjoy YA and middle-grade. Everyone should read what makes them happy, I truly believe that books help you heal or at least alleviate some of the burdens we might be going through at the time. Graphic novels do this trick for me when it comes to blog reviews and I need something in a short time. Stay well and thank you for stopping by and happy reading! 🙂

    Oh, the ARCs… 😂 While I still get FOMO sometimes seeing all the wonderful ARCs that people get, I then remember that I’m generally terrible at reading books on time unless it’s for a tour or something, lol. Good luck and I hope you get to read some stories about mermaids soon! I’ve got a few on my TBR I can’t wait to get to.

    As a fellow mood reader, I can fully relate to your answers here. I’ve been struggling a bit lately with it but hopefully, I will find something to keep my attention soon 😃 Thanks for joining LTB this week!

      Hahah I think ARCs are the everpresent issue for us book bloggers/book lovers haha Thank you fingers crossed I do get my hands on some mermaid stories!! And you too!! Let me know when you do read those I am curious to see if we have the same books 🙂

      I truly hope you do find that read that will keep your attention and give you what your soul is craving for 🙂

    ARC’s were my worst nightmare for the longest time omg! Always the reason I couldn’t read a different book because I need to finish the ARC first. (I once was given 5-6 ARC’s at one time and almost cried because i wasn’t in the mood for them). I hope you get to read some books about mermaids soon!!

      Ahhh this is an ever-present issue for all of us book readers I guess!! As a mood reader ARCs can be a blessing or a curse. I don’t even know why I get myself into it sometimes haha I guess I am just a sucker for books and can’t help it if I sniff a book I want it type a thing.     Great topic! Over my five years of reviewing and blogging I’ve changed my quest for ARCs for this reason. I have a great public library and can read what I want and when without the pressure of deadlines.

      Yes, ARCs can be a pain, indeed. Unfortunately for me, my library doesn’t always have what I want some books are not even translated hence I have to buy them in English so I can read them. This is great that your library has a vast selection! After I finish with my ARcs and author requests I will read for myself for a bit. 🙂

    (because arcs, I feel that haha)

    Seeing the books you choose from years ago can be so interesting in that fashion because you can see for some what kind of topics was of most interest to them at that time.
