Hello, it is Friday and yet another amazing prompt for our LTB meme! Another week has gone by, and I swear, when you are having fun, time just flies by…
Today’s prompt: Guilty Pleasure Reads. Do you agree with the term since it has a somewhat “negative” connotation? Should you feel ashamed or “guilty” for enjoying a certain genre or non-traditional type of book (i.e. graphic novels, manga)? What books do you love or are on your TBR do you think would be considered “guilty pleasures” by others?
Guilty Pleasure Reads. Do you agree with the term since it has a somewhat “negative” connotation?
Well, it might have a negative connotation, but I never paid it any attention, to be honest. I don’t necessarily agree with it or disagree? I used to think that this term was actually reserved for more spicy reads (lol), hence the term, but even if this is the case for some, I don’t view it as something negative. Whatever tickles your pickle!
Should you feel ashamed or “guilty” for enjoying a certain genre or non-traditional type of book (i.e. graphic novels, manga)?
Absolutely and unequivocally NOT! Why should one feel guilty or ashamed for enjoying something that is not mainstream? Of course, we all like different things/genres/topics, etc., and I might not agree/like what you are enjoying and vice versa, but that certainly is no ground for shaming or guilting someone for their reading (and not only) choices.
What books do you love or are on your TBR do you think would be considered “guilty pleasures” by others?
My guilty pleasure books are no doubt Graphic novels/Manga and middle-grade books, and any book that features ghosts (but not in a scary horror-like way!!) I find myself reading them when I need a quick comfort read; it is almost as if I need a hug right there and then, and these genres deliver.
I tend to enjoy middle-grade and LGBT-centered content the most form this type of format. Here are some of my guilty pleasures from my TBR UNAPOLOGETICALLY:

- The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt by Riel Nason, Byron Eggenschwiler (Illustrator)
- Garlic and the Vampire by Bree Paulsen
- The Moth Keeper by K. O’Neill
- The Tea Dragon Society Box Set by Kay O’Neill
- A Song for You and I by K. O’Neill
- Rainbow! Vol. 2 by Sunny, Gloomy (illustrator)
- A Wolf Called Wander by Rosanne Parry, Mónica Armiño (Illustrator)
- The Wild Robot by Peter Brown
How about you? What are your guilty pleasure reads? 🙂
