Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Today’s topic: Books that Include/Feature [insert your favorite theme or plot device here] (for example: unreliable narrators, coming of age, darkness vs. light, time travel, metafiction, a specific romantic trope, good vs. evil. cliffhangers, flashbacks, plot twists, red herrings, loose ends, stories within stories, meet cutes, symbolism, etc.) (submitted by Alice @ The Wallflower Digest)

~Ok, so what I have noticed recently is that I enjoy books that feature ghosts or just the afterlife/death. I’m not sure if there is a name for this, but here are my top 11 (because I can’t stop at 10) books featuring either ghosts, the afterlife/death, or both:

Clicking on the covers will take you to the Goodreads page of the respective book.

I have also included graphic novels and manga, have you read any of these?

  1. You’ve got a ghosty theme going on! I loved Before the Coffee Gets Cold and I also loved Scythe! I’ve got A Monster Calls on my TBR still but I feel like I have to be in the right mood to pick that one up. I have a feeling it’ll make me very emotional, lol.

    1. Yes, I love this topic in books. Definitely, you need to be in the right mindset diving into A Monster Calls, I wept a lot. But it is such a great and meaningful book! I love Toshikazu’s writing, and Scythe was so different. I loved the concept of it.

      1. I have! I listened to the one by Gaiman, is a fabulous narrator of his own books:

I actually did a buddyread on Before the Coffee… But decided not to keep reading the series, thinking it would be too similar:

    1. Same! I loved that book, too, I find Gaiman to be the only horror author that I can read, haha
