Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly bookish discussion meme created by Rukky @Eternity Books and co-hosted by Aria @Book Nook Bits and Dini @DiniPandaReads. Each Friday, bloggers will write posts about a particular topic and share on their blog.

Hello again! I am so happy and thankful to the amazing book community for introducing me to these amazing bookish memes, which I would have been oblivious to otherwise! I discovered this meme thanks to Pages of Emma. Please do go check out her amazing post on LTB!

Prompts: It’s the month of love but it’s not always about romantic love. What are your favourite non-romantic relationships to read about (i.e. siblings, parent-child, etc.) and what do you love most about them? Do you prefer to read about them over romantic relationships? What books would you recommend with your favourite non-romantic relationships?

Let’s be honest: Romance in books nowadays is not what it used to be. Everything happens way too fast for my liking. There is no yearning, build-up anticipation, or romance; it is just lust and instalove. But this is a topic for another day. Therefore, I am very happy to read a book that features non-romantic relationships.

My favourite relationships to read about are definitely mother-daughter, grandparents and their grandchildren, and just interpersonal relationships as a whole. I grew up with my grandparents, and I have immense admiration and gratefulness for them. As for the mother-daughter, my mother lives abroad, and during my teenage years, she was absent from working in a foreign country. Hence, I like reading about what could have been had I had my mother during that time. Don’t get me wrong, I was not abandoned or anything like that, and we have a beautiful relationship just the circumstances forced us apart so to speak.

Here are some of my favourite books featuring these types of relationships that have stuck with me.

There are so many great books that are not centred around romantics that are waiting to be read! I’d like to share the ones I am hoping to read this year, and hopefully, I’ll discover new gems!

Happy reading, and if you’d like, join in the conversation and leave your link to your LTB post! 🙂

  2. We’ve got a few similar books on our posts today but some that you’ve loved and read are still on my TBR and vice versa. I can’t wait to read McCurdy’s book and more by Celeste Ng. I also have Tom Lake and Lily and the Octopus on my TBR. I totally forgot about Before the Coffee Gets Cold but I loved that book and it does a great job of exploring different kinds of relationships!

Great post and thank you for joining LTB this week! 🥰

    1. Absolutely, McCurdy’s book was really a special one, I hope when you get to it, that you will love it as much as I did. As for the rest, I can’t wait to read. Before the Coffee Gets, Cold has struck me so deeply. I am simply in love with Toshikazu’s writing, and the way he delivers so realistically every aspect of those relationships is exquisite!
Thank you for the great meme and for stopping by ❤

  3. Oh you have some fab books here! Personal favourites of mine are ‘The Teller of Small Fortunes’, ‘A Psalm for the Wild-Built’ and ‘The Traveling Cat Chronicles’.

It’s always nice to read a variety of relationships I think. They’re all important, not just romance!
