コーヒーが冷めないうちに #1

Rating: 5 out of 5.

“But Kazu still goes on believing that, no matter what difficulties people face, they will always have the strength to overcome them. It just takes heart. And if the chair can change someone’s heart, it clearly has its purpose.”
― Toshikazu Kawaguchi, Before the Coffee Gets Cold

I am still trying to gather my thoughts and emotions after finishing this book. This was different, it hit different and I totally did not expect it to be what it was.

Toshikazu managed to build me up, tear me down and put a smile on my face whilst all the same tears were pouring down my face. I still don’t know how he managed that but fact it is he did.

Not going to lie I am, quite surprised how this book is not getting more raving reviews and people are not grasping the deeper meaning behind the story. But, oh well, I will take that as I am in the minority on this one and am so damn glad I am.

This is a story that follows a few different people who are connected to each other thanks to the café they all go to. This is a café that has something special an urban legend if you will, some people believe it some do not. If you sit in a special spot in that café you can go back in time. But there are rules to be followed and one must abide by them.

Narrated from those peoples’ different perspectives we get to know their struggles, why they want to go back to the past, what they learn, and most importantly what one can gain from doing such a thing. It is about, forgiveness, acceptance, learning how to move on, giving one solace, but also telling us how important living in the present is, and saying the things we always wanted to say to our loved ones while we still have got the time to do so. This book although tiny has an almighty weight that will linger long after you have read it.

I am in awe still not fully digesting the importance of the impact this little book had on me and making me rethink things I have said and done in the past that I wish I had done differently and I can only imagine that am not the only one thinking and feeling this way.

Please read it I can not recommend it enough, and I really don’t want to say anything else it has to be experienced.
