MY RATING:

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Synopsis:

All I wanted was a quiet summer on my family’s ranch in Idaho…

I didn’t think that was too much to ask. With my fiancé in California, I was back home for three months to plan my wedding. I had colors to pick, cows to milk, and a wedding dress to squeeze into.

Which was why I didn’t need anybody messing with me.

Read More:

Especially not the guy who had dedicated his whole life to making mine a joke. The guy who filled my high school locker with frogs and my hot car with cans of tuna. I mean…I always got him back. But not this summer. Things were different now. I was engaged. I had grown up. I would NOT fall victim to Cade’s pranks, teasing, or his manly charms.

If only my dad hadn’t hired the moron to cowboy for him this summer.

Now my childhood enemy is living on our ranch and seems to think we have a score to settle.

And all bets are off.

REVIEW:

I think I found my type of romance! I suppose western, clean, funny romances are my thing! Not that I mind the spicy, but more often than not, it ends up waaaay too cringy and unrealistic for my taste. So I find this romance hits my sweet spot, so to speak.

I had some minor issues with it, but overall, it was a delightful, fun, quick, happy read for me. What I loved was the sense of community and family at the centre of the story. Everyone was welcoming and heartwarming, and I think deep down, I might be a small-town girl used to people being kind and helpful to one another. And I loved seeing this here.

The characters were wholesome and entertaining. There was depth and dimension to them. It was not the usual lust, and there was nothing instant, which was a breather. The insta-love trope is probably one of my biggest pet peeves, and I am so over it.

The banter between Cade and Kelsey was what I expected it to be from a low-stakes romance book. It was funny, it was touching, it just put a smile on my face throughout the whole book. I really appreciated how the author touched upon some serious topics and how everything worked out at the end.

As for the writing style, it was easy to follow, descriptive and witty.

I really enjoyed this one and will be reading all the books in this series! Solid 4-star read!

One response to “REVIEW: THAT FINE LINE (PRIDE AND PRANKS #1) BY CINDY STEEL”

  1. Sometimes, insta-love isn’t realistic in the story, but hearing that the characters are well-fleshed-out make this book readable and captivating.
