MY RATING:

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Synopsis:

A dangerous alliance between a Vampyre bride and an Alpha Werewolf becomes a love deep enough to sink your teeth into in this new paranormal romance from the #1 New York Timesbestselling author of Love, Theoretically and The Love Hypothesis.

Misery Lark, the only daughter of the most powerful Vampyre councilman of the Southwest, is an outcast—again.

Read More:

Her days of living in anonymity among the Humans are over: she has been called upon to uphold a historic peacekeeping alliance between the Vampyres and their mortal enemies, the Weres, and she sees little choice but to surrender herself in the exchange—again…

Weres are ruthless and unpredictable, and their Alpha, Lowe Moreland, is no exception. He rules his pack with absolute authority, but not without justice. And, unlike the Vampyre Council, not without feeling. It’s clear from the way he tracks Misery’s every movement that he doesn’t trust her. If only he knew how right he was….

Because Misery has her own reasons to agree to this marriage of convenience, reasons that have nothing to do with politics or alliances, and everything to do with the only thing she’s ever cared about. And she is willing to do whatever it takes to get back what’s hers, even if it means a life alone in Were territory…alone with the wolf.

THE REVIEW:

Should I jump onto the bandwagon and do a “knot” joke too? I’d rather KNOT

If you know, you know….

Oh boy, where do I start with this one? Given the subject matter of this book, the entire reading experience was alright. The universe Ali created was intriguing, and I quite liked the banter between Misery and Lowe. Her humour was nice, and at times I did find myself giggling whilst reading.

The plot was there, I was invested in what was going on and the politics and the ongoing “war” between all the species. I think here the author did a very good job, and this was probably the most interesting part of the whole story to me. Hence, I definitely will be reading Mate and hopefully will be less sex and more action, and we get to see the point of view of the humans as well as more of the vampires’ inner dynamics.

Yeah, about the sexual bits, I think some things should be just left alone and not written, you know. Not everything that pops into our heads should be shared… I guess here Ali’s intrusive thoughts won, and she just had to create something that I would not be able to forget, and it is burned in my brain forever, thanks for that…

I don’t mind the spice, although I did mind some of the vivid descriptions about a certain Knot… Just nah, I mean, why? Could you just leave that part to us to imagine and leave these weird whatever it was out of the sex parts?? No? This was the main reason my rating was dropped down to a solid 3 stars; otherwise, I think it would have been a 4-star read for me.

I really am looking forward to seeing more of Misery’s brother and Anna and Serena, so quite excited about the next book and what they will be up to.

In conclusion, it was an OK read; the spicy parts were just not for me, though.
