Today’s Prompt: Is there a month, quarter or other specific time of year when you do your most reading and why do you think that is? Does this tend to fluctuate every year or is your reading pretty ‘steady’? (Jillian @ Jillian the Bookish Butterfly)
Happy Friday lovely people! Hope you are all doing wonderfully and are having some amazing reads.
I have missed a lot of LTB, so here I am now joining today’s party.
1. Is there a month, quarter or other specific time of year when you do your most reading and why do you think that is?
Looking back on this year, I was significantly more productive with reading at the beginning of the year. More specifically, March was my most prolific month in terms of the quantity read. According to my records, I read 14 books that month.
As to why that might be, I suppose it is because my baby was still young at the time, and I had more time to myself. Also, my husband was working way more than he is now, and I had to fill the gaps when the baby was asleep, which was most of the time back then 😅
Now, fast forwarding to now, we are swamped, and I am still psychologically recovering from everything that has been happening, and I have slipped into an awful reading slump (from which I am slowly getting out of currently!)
2. Does this tend to fluctuate every year or is your reading pretty ‘steady’?
Looking back on the previous years, I must say it definitely fluctuates for me. Being a mood reader helps me stay random when it comes to my reading quantity, oh well… I guess this can’t be helped.
Certainly, I wish I were steadier and more consistent with my reading, however, this ain’t the case with me, and I don’t think it will ever be, to be honest. I just go with the flow, according to my circumstances at the time.
I think a lot of people nowadays read for quantity and not quality, and prioritise reading fast rather than enjoying and savouring the story they are reading. In a way, I used to do that as well, which led me to forget the books I was reading at the time. Hence, I would like to concentrate my energy on reading mindfully and reading the books that I know I will enjoy.
Without saying that, I would still read outside my comfort zone, as this way I have discovered some amazing authors and books, such as Neil Gaiman. Horror or spooky books are not for me, and let me tell you how glad I am I forced myself to read Gaiman’s books! It was an instant love, and he writes this genre in such a way that my easily scared self was like I need more of this! Yeah, I guess you get the idea how much I admire this author’s work.
Another author I discovered that way was Fredrik Backman. I would have never imagined how much I would feel and see myself in his stories. He knows how to tug at my heartstrings and how to make me see the world from a different perspective. After reading A Man Called Ove, I knew I would read and buy every single book he has ever published or will publish. Currently, I am reading My Friends, his newest novel, and I already know it is going to be in the top 5 reads of this year, and I’m only 20 chapters in.
Wishing you all a great day, here is the little one 🙂
