Today’s prompt: Do you collect bookish accessories? What are some bookish accessories that you can’t get enough of? Is there any type of bookish accessory that you feel is “overdone” (i.e. book mugs)? Where do you usually get your bookish accessories and do you have recommended stores to get them from?

Happy Friday!! Another LTB new discussion!

Do you collect bookish accessories? What are some bookish accessories that you can’t get enough of?

Short answer NO. Never felt the need to nor have I seen the appeal of this. I do get why some people might enjoy this activity/hobby but it certainly isn’t for me. The books are my passion so I collect them and cannot get enough of haha!

Is there any type of bookish accessory that you feel is “overdone” (i.e. book mugs)?

Yes, I see so many book mugs, tote bags, bookmarks and candles around! Nothing wrong with that, but they can be a tad more creative and produce something different for a change no??

Where do you usually get your bookish accessories and do you have recommended stores to get them from?

I will stick with BOOKS rather than accessories: I buy them mainly from Amazon/Kindle, Audible, Play Books, and The Library and as of recently I am trying out Kobo and Storytel (an alternative to Audible) and looking out for a local bookshop that does e-books/audiobooks (although I highly doubt I will find anything here in BG). I do not purchase physical books due to lack of space and due to our baby girl. It is not convenient for me to have physical books. Hence I buy exclusively e-books and audiobooks.

I went a bit off-topic but tell me do you collect anything bookish besides books themselves?

  1. Bookmarks are my weakness lol. Side note to your off topic, SO happy you’re trying out other places to buy books!

    1. haha nothing wrong with that! I personally can’t give 20GBP/USD for a candle this is one book worth here. Actually I fidn Kobo to be the cheapest without having any sales/discounts ongoing. The regular prices are lower than Amazon/Play books and Audible.. Which is great but it will not let me buy since it sees im in Bulgaria and apparently out of their jurisdiction to be able to buy…

      1. Candles are sooo expensive! Kobo is great with their pricing, but that’s very annoying you can’t seem to get them. It says they’re worldwide… hopefully they will expand to you soon

      2. Yesterday I tried to buy Wintering by Katherine May, mind you, as an e-book, as soon as I clicked on the buy button, and it told me you are not eligible… Going back to the topic of the big companies, we have very limited places to buy from, which is beyond annoying

  3. Great post! To be fair, I don’t collect these things as much as I just accumulate them as a result of being subscribed to book boxes (though I guess that still counts as “indirect” purchasing of said items when it’s really just the special book I’m after, haha)! 🤣

It’s great that you’re trying other options for buying. I’ve been thinking about checking out Kobo more and more lately but I surprisingly find that the ebooks are more expensive compared to those on Amazon? Maybe cos I’m mostly looking at deals. It’s hard being an international reader when options are so limited! I hope you do find different options that work just as well for you. Thanks for participating in LTB this week! 💜

    1. Thank you!!! Haha I had a subscription box when I lived in the UK and it is so true the amount you accumulate through these boxes is crazy. And 90% of that stuff i gifted away or just got lost in between space and moving around haha. But still nothing wrong with that if people collect these items.

I am doing a research now and trying different places of purchasing especially ebooks and audiobooks. Since I live in Bulgaria like yourself 1 is very expensive 2 the places to buy from are limited 3 same import taxes are a killer and sometimes they cost more than the book itself! I will share my findings when I am happy i found good alternatives that are ok for non US and UK citizens lol!

  4. I do not collect bookish accessories either. I had a really nice book mug, but it got broken and I never replaced it.

    1. I mean i don’t see anything wrong with people collecting these type if items. I just rather spend that money on books haha I think I had a bookish mug too but it got lost in transition 😅

      1. I agree, Lin. I am not a knick knack kind of gal. I have other things that I would choose to spend my money on.

      2. Exactly! And bookish accessories are even more pricey than books themselves, so I’d rather not given the economy we are in…
