THE REVIEW:

Awww, man, this was so cute and beautiful.

We follow the story of a little boy who has lost his beloved pet, and he doesn’t know how to cope with the overwhelming feeling that is weighing on him. This children’s book, although small, has a very important and delicate message that I found it tackles with empathy and in a way a child would understand and give them time to heal and process this complex feeling; grief.

The exploration of grief and how to deliver it to our little humans is a huge task, and there are different opinions on how much, how and what should be said. I personally find it very important to say things as they are. Kids are very perceptive and will call a lie out when they sniff it!

I was 8 years old when my paternal grandad passed away, and my parents took me to visit him before he perished. I will be forever grateful they did not take away my chance to say goodbye to him. I might not remember anything else from when I was 8, but this one memory has stayed with me to this day. There was no sugarcoating, it got straight to the point but delivered with heart and understanding.

And this is what this book does, I also really appreciated the art it was cute, and children definitely would love it. The story is concise, the language is beautiful and comprehensive for the age group it is aimed at. At the end of the book, there is a guide with very useful information and activities to help a child cope with the loss. What I also like is that this is also an educational piece and a helping hand for the parents as well!

I just wish it was a bit longer and to see more of the animals and the bridge or rather beyond the bridge.

Absolutely do recommend it, especially if you have a child who has recently lost a beloved pet or a family member. This book is a great medium for delivering such news and explains the concept of grieving delicately and that it is OK to be sad.
