Book Blogger Hop is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer. The meme occurs weekly, on a Friday. Each week, a specific prompt is chosen, a book-related question for participants to address.
Today’s prompt: Sometimes, readers get into funks and maybe stop reading or feel like reading is work. What do you do to get yourself out of a reading funk? (submitted by Nicole @ The Christian Fiction Girl)
Oh, I really like this prompt! I have had plenty of reading slumps for gazillions of reasons. It does feel like a chore sometimes, especially if you have requested a ton of ARCs and accepted another ton of books from authors because you just can’t help yourself…
Yeahhhh….. moving onnn!
What do you do to get yourself out of a reading funk?
This is what I find works for me personally:
- Re-read a favourite book/s! In particular, The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune has taken me out of slumps more often than I would like to admit lol. Another favourite is The Little Prince by Exupéry, which has helped me during difficult patches in my life more than slumps, but nevertheless, the fact is it does help me!
- Take a break! In case I find myself overwhelmed by my reading choices or the pressure of it, yes, I just turn off the power and go hibernate!
- Read a graphic novel/middle-grade book! If I start feeling like it is getting too much, I will get myself a palate cleanser, and I find these genres are just exactly what I need and do the trick every time!
- Push through! If everything else fails, oh well, I just need to brace myself and simply force myself to finish that book that has been sitting on page 56 and has been collecting dust for months. Of course, if the book doesn’t click with me, it will be a DNF, but this is not what I am talking about. Sometimes, you just need to pause a book and try again, so I will push through in order to get back on track. Though love, I call it, but instead of my parents, I give it to myself…
