Synopsis:

Aster and his family are adjusting to his unconventional talent for witchery; unlike the other boys in his family, he isn’t a shapeshifter. He’s taking classes with his grandmother and helping to keep an eye on his great-uncle whose corrupted magic wreaked havoc on the family.

Meanwhile, Aster’s friend from the non-magical part of town, Charlie, is having problems of her own — a curse has tried to attach itself to her. She runs to Aster and escapes it, but now the friends must find the source of the curse before more people — normal and magical alike — get hurt.

THE REVIEW:

I felt this one… Did not see it coming.

Continuing the same setting, we follow Aster, Charlie, his family and a new girl, Ariel, who has just transferred to the local school.

I really liked that there was more added to the story about Mikasi, and we also got to know Sedge, Aster’s cousin.

Again, this sequel deals with being true to who you really are, sticking for your family and friends, and not being too quick to judge but giving people a chance to prove themselves and redeem themselves. What is that saying ” A friend in need is a friend indeed!

Ariel was a very interesting character something is telling me we will see more of her in the next book and more of her story. And I can’t wait for my library to get the 3rd book so I can read and find out!

The art is again amazing, nothing to add here. I absolutely enjoyed it. The facial expressions and the backgrounds were great.

Overall, I did like this sequel, the only thing is, again, the tempo is too fast for my liking. Especially when the interesting bit happens as soon as it starts it ends, and I am left wanting more of the story. Hence my solid 4-star rating for this one.

Definitely recommend!
