Summary:

Death lurks behind a mysterious orphanage where children train to become magical weapons of war. Among them is Sheena, who longs to stop the fighting and end the conflict. On one gruesome night, Sheena meets a strange girl covered in blood, with a smile on her face. The mysterious girl turns out to be a secret weapon-an immortal child soldier named Mimi. When the two become roommates, there is growing tension and attraction. How will the peace-loving Sheena live with someone who welcomes death?

I received this review copy for free from NetGalley and am providing my honest review.

Oh, my, where do I start with this one. Every now and then, I will stumble upon yet another one of those books that makes my blood boil and want to throw it across the room… Unfortunately for me, this book was exactly that. I will not hold back here because I reached my breaking point.

THE REVIEW:

Let me begin with the positive first since it is not going to take long. The cover and the art are the only positive things here, and nothing else.

This is out of the way; I am going straight to the point. Can we please stop sexualising children and promoting paedophilia/paedophilic behaviour?!

I am sick and tired of this agenda being pushed onto us. It is now lurking in books of all ages. Even children are being force-fed this idealisation of having crushes on older, much older people, and so on. As you can read from the summary, this manga had a good premise. I was expecting magic and political issues to be dealt with with lots of action-packed art and some romance/platonic subplot going on.

But this, 10-year-olds being sexualised and showing nude images of children, and kissing adults like proper kissing, so they could “be healed” and their mana restored, is straight up disgusting and disturbing, to say the least. I will never support nor be quiet when I come across this type of agenda, I am a mother myself, and it baffles me how people can enjoy this type of content and view it as something normal. Oh, yes, I am judging you very hard if you do enjoy this, and I do have my opinion made up for you right away, don’t care what the excuse is. Whoever enjoys and supports THIS has some huge issues…

Had the ages of the characters been older, I would not have had any issues with it.

I do not recommend this book at all!

Note to self: read the reviews before getting a book!

  1. Oh man. Hard agree on all points. I’m sorry this was written like this and didn’t live up to literally any expectations.

I swear NetGalley sometimes is so hit and miss 😦

    1. Unfortunately, yes, it is. I was expecting something completely different. It definitely caught me by surprise and not in a pleasant way. I do love me some manga but this ain’t it.
