Summary:

A gothic graphic novel perfect for fans of Lockwood & Co. and The Haunting of Hill House, this story follows Dorian Leith, a young medium who can see and help ghosts move on. Though shunned by most, he works alongside his ghostly grandmother and a kind bookshop owner to make a living from his abilities.

But when the key to Death’s Door is stolen, trapping spirits in the land of the living, Dorian is their only hope. As a ghostly rot spreads, threatening to consume the restless dead, he must race against time to restore balance—no matter the personal cost.

I’m absolutely thrilled that Libby recommended this delightful graphic novel to me while I was on the hunt for something lighthearted, whimsical, and ghostly. What I initially thought would be a simple read turned out to be an unexpectedly rich experience, and the artwork was nothing short of breathtaking. The author skillfully delves into the intricate layers of life, death, and the profound healing journey, all while weaving an engaging and emotionally resonant narrative.

The story was a captivating blend of haunting moments, endearing connections, and tantalising mysteries, leaving me deep in thought long after I finished reading. I cherished every moment spent with it. I appreciated the representation of diverse characters.

The main characters—Dorian, his imperfect grandma, the lost and troubled little Lucy, the sweetheart Brody, and the mischievous cat—were simply delightful. Each one was beautifully flawed yet filled with redeeming qualities, making them feel incredibly real and relatable.
