“Who wouldn’t want to go off on a grand adventure with a bunch of hot heroes also chosen by the goddess?” Me bitches. No, thank you. Biceps are nice, but so was not having my guts eaten by an orc.”
― Kimberly Lemming, That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon

Right, the beginning of this adventure was quite funny, with a veil of mystery surrounding our main character and the plot as a whole. My curiosity was poked, and I was all in for it. There were some funny bits, some adventure, a lot of action both in and out of the bed, if you know what I mean…

To whoever said this book was spicy, well, they were not joking… this is probably the spiciest book that I have ever read, and although I did not mind the explicit language, I found it irrelevant to the story, and I simply wished there was more adventure and plot building rather than “I want your d!ck all the time…” It put me off, but I guess I can understand why some people might like this type of content.

It was definitely not something I would have picked on my own, this book was described to me as funny and cosy, which I found not to be exactly true and not what I bargained for.

After Cin and Fallon reached Wandermere everything went downhill for me. The plot was all over the place, I think the author was not even interested in the main scope of this book anymore, but it quickly turned into a hot mess with mostly smut in it with some action thrown here and there. I mean, writing full pages of pure explicit and descriptive content of how X slid into Y just ain’t it. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind some spiciness like I mentioned, but damn, I want to read about the story too, it was supposed to be a funny, cosy, adventurous read, not some straight-up p0rn…

Nevertheless, there were parts I enjoyed, but the majority was disappointing as I found plotholes and questionable character choices.

I did like the family dynamics of our main character Cin, wished there was a lot more of it!

All this said, I still think I might read the rest of the books in this series in the hope that it will get better at the fun and cosy part lol

P.S. I love the cover!

  1. I had such a good time with this book! Though Im not sure i would describe the series as ‘cozy’. I enjoyed them as equally as I enjoyed any spicy paranormal romance like the CM Nascosta or Victoria Aveline. Especially since the female leads were more relatable. Hope u get on with the rest! Good review!

    1. I’m glad to hear that! I guess it was due to my mindset going into it. I thought i was getting into for a cosy, funny, adventure, action-packed read, and i didn’t get that, hence my review on the book. However, now that I know what I’m to expect, i think I’ll enjoy the rest of the books more. I hope that makes sense, ha ha. Thank you so much for stopping by ♡

  2. Interesting. I do get bored with sex scenes so we shall see. I am a bit worried that it is the spiciest thing you have read. Have you read Fifty Shades of Grey? That was quite a lot for me, just so I know what to expect 😂

    Have a great week!

      2. Yes, exactly! I mean sometimes authors don’t realise that we don’t need every minute detail written out for us lol we can well understand and fill in the gaps fine and this also gives us the freedom to imagine that particular scene the way we want. I mean, I don’t mind the spiciness just sometimes, there is no point in it unless it is linked to the plot somehow if that makes sense.

      3. It does. When they go on and on it’s so unnecessary. the Pumpkin Spice Cafe. I had to take a star away because I got bored of all those scenes. The story around the scenes was actually pretty good and could have been made so much better if more attention was spent on those.

      4. Ah, this is unfortunate. I have this book on my TBR, so I am curious to see how I will find it. I find that a lot of times the authors concentrate on unnecessary things and instead ot giving to the story, it only takes away from it. Oh well

      5. It was a shame in my opinion. Literally every other line was a ridiculous scene once they agreed that they liked eachother. It was a bit much. The second one was slightly less.

      6. Ahh, that is a bummer! I find that most authors cannot write credible romantic/sex scenes.. They will be either too awkward, there will be too little or way too much, or it will be exaggerated so much that you will cringe when reading….
