It feels like I’m reading the same story over and over again with little bits and pieces added here and there to distract from that fact.
What I did enjoy was definitely the Jewish heritage as well as the WWII references and back story of Abby’s grandmother, and Noah’s grandfather’s heartwrenching love story which was so much more interesting than the rest of the book.
Like I already mentioned every YA or coming-of-age romance book has this bloody trope where the girl works in a library as a part-time job or in a book shop and she loves books and the love interest is this rich handsome guy that has this amazing personality and parent/s that is/are against them even getting near each other.
Like would it actually hurt for the girl not to have a part-time job and hate books? And for the guy to be just a normal dude from an average family? Why does it always have to be Superman meets the cute librarian smart-ass girl that is hot but she does not know it yet?????
Yeah, so moving on… and leaving my unresolved book trope anger issue for another day lool.
SPOILER SECTION
Noah and Abby… nothing much to say they said their I love you in the span of the few times they met each other it was cringy I don’t even want to get into this. They were not 17 and 18 they felt like 13 and 14 by the way they acted and spoke, maybe Noah was a tad more mature…
The grandparents were much more interesting and I wish we had more of them throughout the book I would have enjoyed it better had it not involved any romance between Noah and Abby, and instead was more of an adventure story where two friends rediscover their heritage and have a deeper meaningful connection that can be platonic you know?? People can have amazing platonic relationships and still have better life stories than these two here did…
Also if you found a family heirloom that is worth a lot of money which you clearly do not need and it has a huge sentimental value would you sell it still or keep it and pass it down to the next generations?
Because Abby and her family did sell it, even though they donated the money it still did not sit well with me… I don’t know the whole ending of this book was just a big meh for me, the only reason why I did not give it less than 3 stars was because of the grandparents…
