This is a story about Eddie, an 80-year-old-something war veteran, who has lived an insignificant life, or so he thought. The author explores an idea of what the afterlife might be like and challenges your own views on this topic whilst representing a heartwarming story about the past, the present, forgiveness, love, and peace.
This book has been showing up on various platforms throught the years, I never thought of picking it up as I was not interested. However, as one ages ones taste changes and when this book showed up again in my sight I had to read it this time around.
You know when people say, this book found me at the right time of my life? Well, this is what happened here.
This was a very interesting, thought-provoking read about the afterlife, about how we all are connected to one another even through some minuscular thing. I often wonder what if there is nothingness when we die? What if there is heaven and hell and I end up in hell? These are questions that I guess many of you ponder about, and this book gave me solace, it comforted my views on death and gave me a different perspective. I would like to think that, just like the author our lives however insignificant we think they might be, they always would be significant to someone else. The lady we said good morning to, the little kid we helped to get up after they hell off their bike, the cat that we petted on our way back home, something we wrote on a pice of paper and left unfinished in between the pages of a book. It always has a purpose, and no matter how small that thing we did or said it will always affect someone else one way or the other.
I really hope this does not sound like I’m rambling too much, these are thoughts that the older I get the more I think about. It is fascinating to know what other people’s take on these philosophical if you will questions are like.
The story was well presented, and it was engrossing and interesting to learn more about Eddie and his life in the trenches, and just get a glimpse like a time capsule into the past. The characters were well-crafted and developed.
I did enjoy this book and do recommend it. Will be reading the second book in this duology for sure.
