This book was given to me by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

The story unfolds in a very strange school, where something mysterious happens. While our characters try to unravel the mystery they deal with issues of their own.

This was definitely an interesting, yet very confusing book. The writing style in my opinion was quite shocking because of how chaotic and all over the place it was. I really struggled to follow who was saying what and what was going on as a whole. Just to give you a few examples of what I mean:

“And I know, while spitting out the TP they stuffed in my mouth and charging down the stairs….”

and:

“She knows me well enough to know that I had no genital encounters, close or distant. No contact, ever, with anyone, or even between me and me. In the shower, I use the spray from the hand-held head; in the bathroom, three layers if toilet paper.”

“I sit down. For now, my desk’s perfectly aligned with the others in my row, to within a pube’s breadth. It had been just like that on my very first day, I remember, and yet I still ended the year stuck to the wall. It was down to the legs of the desk. They aged backwards little by little. ”

I still cannot for the life of me decipher what the author was trying to convey here and I still don’t know what in the name of bloody abbreviations TP means…? Is it toilet paper? And if so why the hell abbreviate it?….

Anyway, the story although very bizarre does tackle problems such as bullying, loneliness, friendship, being a teenager, and the issues and struggles that come with it. The magic and mystery that are going on in the school is really a way that the author uses to present us with these topics, which I did appreciate and enjoyed reading about through a different perspective.

Had the writing been done differently, I think I would have enjoyed the book much more. I really found it difficult to get into the writing style and the language used was simply not comprehensible at least for me.

Overall I gave it 3 stars and would still recommend it. I mean it was a good story just not for me I guess.
