The story revolves around Meredith, her family, and Wit. It is summer we have the carefree and relaxed family vibes one gets when it is sunny and you are on a vacation to your favourite place. We follow mainly Mer and Wit and their “summer fling”…
This was a cute, fast-paced book that I did not care much about. It is not meant to be harsh just the plain truth of my reading experience of it.
It definitely had aspects to it that I could relate to and I did enjoy reading about. I particularly liked how dealing with grief in the family was portrayed, I wish this subject was explored more. The writing style was nice as well. But this is it, it ends here for me. If you liked it and it was the best read for you this summer then I am more than happy for you and I can see why.
SPOILER SECTION
Everything was going fine until we met Wit, our male protagonist. He is fun, checks, good-looking, checks, the typical blond-haired blue-eyed next-door neighbour type of a guy that everybody likes and every girl falls for. Then out of nowhere things with him and Mer (our female protagonist, blond-haired, pretty, and petite likes to read and is not like the other girls type of a girl that most guys like but she never knows about them) went soooo fast I just blinked and she was in bed with him after not even a week of a break up with her 4-year relationship boyfriend like:
We just went from 0 to 300 faster than a bloody Ferrari and damn is that quick (about 22 seconds for the curious ones it was announced by Ferrari) you get the point. This was quite disappointing, I was expecting some slow-burn coming-of-age romance, and getting over a long-term relationship stuff, but no just skip that part and make our female lead make out and have sex with the first guy she meets literally. That is where it lost me and I was not enjoying it as much. The rest is just as messy and I could not for the life of me decipher where the writer was going on with this story. It started with one tone and then ended on a completely different department forget the music it went home depot. Don’t ask me I don’t know either. Maybe, yes, this happens in real life, when I came out of a 4-year relationship and a failed engagement it took me a year to move on LOL props to Mer for moving on in the span of a couple of days.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Overall I did not hate it nor did I dislike it, I just could not connect to our characters apart from the grieving aspect. I liked the writing style actually, the way the author described things and the whole family-oriented home vibes love that. In regards to the book I would still recommend it, it is a quick cute read that took me about 2 weeks to complete if you have more free time than I do you could finish it in a day or two really.
Additionally, I love the cover! The colours and the art are top!
Anyway, let me know if you’ve read it or if you plan on reading it? 🙂
